ABSTRACT

As mentioned earlier, composites have several advantages such as improved fatigue strength, superior corrosion resistance, and higher specific strengths (Cantwell and Morton, 1991). Due to the tendency towards denser circuit diagrams and smaller devices, several laser drilling systems have been employed for drilling microvias on different Printed Circuit Board (PCB) material systems such as epoxy/glass (Kestenbaum et al., 1990), aramid/epoxy (Hirogaki et al., 2001), etc. Composites have several other applications also as mentioned in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Furthermore, laser machining of bones (a composite) has been discussed in Chapter 5. Nonetheless, laser machining of other composite systems will form the subject of this chapter.
