ABSTRACT
What is PSM? The authors’ view is that PSM is a management process that allows leaders involved in commercial manufacturing and chemical businesses to proactively recognize, understand, and control process hazards, such that process-related injuries and incidents may be prevented and organizations can continue to progress toward its value maximization goals. PSM, when simpli“ed, is the application of a management system and supporting tool to eliminate, prevent, and minimize the impact of process-related incidents and events. PSM forms a critical part of an organization’s SMS and is designed to work in conjunction with personnel safety management.
