ABSTRACT

In tunnels being constructed in complicated hydrogeological conditions special techniques such as grouting (cementation) the surrounding soil mass are applied. Strengthening by grouting allows anisotropy of soils around a tunnel to be reduced and their deformation modulus to be raised. In this case a soil zone around the opening the mechanical properties of which are different from those of the rest massif is being created. This circumstance resulting in a redistribution of the “lining – soil mass” system stress state, may exert a substantial influence on the lining bearing capacity and it is necessary to be taken that influence into account in the lining design.
