ABSTRACT

The ethics of outsourcing is taking action to ensure that those caught in the unforeseen wave—those unable/unwilling to retool to meet the sudden, dramatic demands of new market forces—are provided the means to restructure their work lives. An offshore checklist is hopefully just the start of a meaningful industry dialogue on how to go about minimizing not only negative public relations spin but the actual negative economic impact that information technology (IT) offshore outsourcing can wreak. Prior to empowering an organization to evaluate and make ethical decisions on behalf of IT offshore programs, an Ethics program management office (PMO) must be defined. The chapter looks at the Ethics PMO methodology, the structure of the ideal Ethics PMO organization. It focuses on the roles and responsibilities associated with an Ethics PMO. Each ethics project manager applies the program guidelines, success criteria, and goals of the Ethics PMO to the needs of his or her specific department.
