ABSTRACT

From Asakusa Station to Minami-Senju Station, as shown in Figure 2, the tunnel construction advanced below the Kokusai-dori street for about 1300 m through densely populated residential areas on an upward slope of 33 per mil, and the tunnel passed right under the Tokyo Rapid Transit Authority’s (Tokyo Metro) Hibiya subway line, a JR freight line, and the JR Jyoban railway line. Advanced technologies and careful control on the construction were therefore required to prevent disturbances to key structures and to ensure the safety of the train traffic.
