ABSTRACT
UAM (Umbrella arch method) is a pre-reinforcement technique, ahead of a tunnel face, which is obtained by installing steel or FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) pipes at the tunnel boundary (Figure 1). The pipes are
formed by an umbrella with a truncated cone shape and which allows the overlapping of two adjacent umbrellas (Oreste & Peila, 1998).
