Metsovitikos river north alignment of Egnatia motorway. The concept and the tunnel designs

Egnatia Odos AE has compiled Design Guidelines for all engineering disciplines involved in the construction of the highway (Kazilis, 1999). A part of this document concerns the tunnel design guidelines and covers both bored tunnels and Cut and Cover tunnels. All Egnatia tunnels are designed as twin tunnels. Cross passages are provided every 350-400 metres. Emergency vehicle turn-overs are provided every 1000 metres along parking areas.
