ABSTRACT
This volume contains the proceedings of the conference “Powders & Grains 2005”, held in Stuttgart, July 18-22, 2005. This is the Fifth International Conference on the Micromechanics of Granular Media organized under the auspices of the Association pour L’Etude de la Micromécanique des Milieux Granulaires. Following in the spirit of past conferences at Clermond-Ferrand, France in 1989; Birmingham, England in 1993; Durham, USA in 1997; and Sendai, Japan in 2001, the purpose of this meeting is to communicate continuing developments and new ideas in research on the micromechanics of granular media.
