ABSTRACT

The Jiu-Jiu-Fon massif is located in the hanging wall of the Che-Lung-Pu thrust, which was activated during the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake in Taiwan. It exposes a thick layer of Pleistocene conglomerates showing evidences of strong tectonic deformation. The morphology of the landscape is characterized by unvegetated dome-shaped hills incised by narrow and steep canyons. Landslides triggered by the earthquake denudated the massif over an area of ∼15 km2.
