ABSTRACT
A large percentage of employers believe that HIPAA does not apply to them if they do not sell health insurance or do not provide medical care and treatment. Many employers would be surprised or alarmed to learn how HIPAA can and likely will impact their operations. Employers must determine the nature of their relationship with their employee benet plans, their use of protected health information (PHI), and how their activities must be modied to comply with HIPAA.
