ABSTRACT

India, that is, Bharat (8°4′N-37°6′N and 68°7′E-97°25′E), embraces a major part of the South Asian realm. Girdled by the young fold mountain chain on its NW, N, and NE and washed by the Indian Ocean and its two main arms, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal on the SW, S, and SE, India is a welldefined geographical unit though with contrasting features.
