ABSTRACT
Regulations, codes, and directives are legal requirements imposed by legislative bodies (parliaments, governments, the European Union) and are mandatory for everyone dealing with a certain activity. On the contrary, standards, guidelines, and codes of practice are voluntary documents useful for interested industrial organizations engaged in the relevant activity.
