ABSTRACT

A digital image is the materialization of a number of processes in computer graphics. Images are present in all areas of computer graphics, either as a final product, as in the case of rendering, or as an essential part of the interaction process, as in the case of modeling. In this chapter we will develop a conceptualization of the digital image, including mathematical models and representation techniques on the computer. Our emphasis will be the conceptual aspects of displaying images, a problem that is directly related to displaying colors.
