The structural performance of thin-walled compression members is governed, essentially, by the effects of buckling and post-buckling behaviour. There are a number of possibilities with regard to the mode of buckling that can occur and this would depend, of course, on the geometrical details of the member crosssection, the member length, end conditions with regard to support and loading and also the member structural material.
