ABSTRACT
The name of the genus, Capparis, and the common name for its edible parts, caper, both derive from the word for goat. Caprication (Lansky and Paavilainen 2011) is the fertilization of female fig trees by wasps from male trees carrying the latter’s pollen. The word hints at the caprice of the goat, primordial symbol/spirit of the randy male.
