ABSTRACT
The concept of a normed, and subsequently a Banach space has become over the last 70 years, a turning point in functional analysis with countless applications in mathematics and its use for modeling in science. There is no field of analysis which cannot be viewed from this perspective. Further, the unifying power of this concept provides a rich background of results and techniques for mathematicians to use in order to solve their specific problems.
