It is the subject of graph theory of course that we are about to describe. The statement above was made in 1963 by the mathematician Oystein Ore who will be encountered in Chapter 3. While graph theory was probably Ore’s major mathematical area of interest during the latter part of his career, he is also known for his work and interest in number theory (the study of integers) and the history of mathematics.
