ABSTRACT

Studies have reported that communication skills are more important to engineers than the technical skills that form the core of most civil engineering undergraduate programs. Yet in spite of the importance of communication skills, engineering graduates are ranked as poor communicators. Many reasons could be cited for this de—ciency, but the reasons are not important. Ways of correcting the de—ciency are important. First and foremost, the civil engineering student must recognize the importance of communication and accept the fact that he or she can greatly bene—t by becoming a better communicator.
