Congenital abnormalities account for the majority of cases of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children. The leading causes of CKD in children listed by the North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies database are renal aplasia/hypoplasia/dysplasia, 16%; obstructive uropathy, 15%; focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, 12%; re¬ux nephropathy, 5%; chronic glomerulonephritis, 3%; and polycystic kidney disease, 3%.
