ABSTRACT
Introduction Demography will change dramatically over the next 20 years and will influence the need for health care. An increasing proportion of people will be living longer, and there will be an increase in cancer prevalence. These changes will coincide with increasing dependency ratios and decreasing fertility rates in both developed and developing countries. This will influence the cancer care and treatment of the cancer patient who will be more isolated, frailer, and of an older age category.
