ABSTRACT

The palate and fauces consist of a hard anterior and soft posterior palate, the tonsillar area and pillars of the fauces, and the oropharynx. The mucosa of the hard palate is firmly bound down as a mucoperiosteum (similar to the gingivae) and with no obvious vascular arcades. Rugae are present anteriorly on either side of the incisive papilla that overlies the incisive foramen.
