ABSTRACT

Ultrasound devices for both internally and externally applied ultrasound energy became available in the 1990s, but the use of ultrasound energy came and went in popularity due to many practical and safety concerns with its use. A so-called third generation of ultrasound energy was FDA-approved in September 2002 (VASER; Sound Surgical Technologies LLC, Louisville, Colorado, USA). VASER stands for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance.
