ABSTRACT

Private cloud implementations require an update on existing security models. In addition to that, the economic climate has also put information technology on the hot seat to deliver technology cheaper, faster, and better. Public cloud service providers entered the market with scale, cost, and functionality being key drivers, but many of them are aware of the increasing need for getting their security act together to court businesses that are highly regulated around customer privacy. Licensing is an area where careful consideration has to be given in a private or public cloud scenario. For private clouds, the choice of virtualization technology could significantly drive cost due to the different price structures of each technology. The virtualization licensing models are adjusted over time to contend with Moore’s law in the advancement processing power. Software companies are struggling to come up with licensing strategy that keeps them profitable while providing agility and flexibility to service the on-demand model of cloud infrastructures.
