ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present some examples of simple applications of exergy analysis. All applications refer to single process steps: the spontaneous expansion of a gas, the production of ice from water by cooling with evaporating ammonia in a heat exchanger, the compression of a gas, the vortex tube, the separation of a mixture, and the spontaneous combustion of hydrogen. This chapter will be followed by Part III, Chapters 9 through 12, which will deal with case studies of complete and integrated processes.
