ABSTRACT

Experimental procedures to measure ultraviolet (UV) absorption and transmission spectra in bulk and thin-‡lm forms of tellurite glasses are summarized in Chapter 9, along with theoretical concepts related to absorption spectra, optical energy gaps, and energy band tail width. The UV-spectrum data discussed here have been collected in the wavelength range from 200 to 600 nm at room temperature. Data are provided for the UV properties of oxide-tellurite glasses (bulk and thin ‡lm), oxide-tellurite glass-ceramics (bulk and thin ‡lm), halide-tellurite glasses, and nonoxide-tellurite glasses. From these experimental absorption spectra, the energy gap and band tail data are also summarized for these glasses. Analysis of these optical parameters is based on the Urbach rule, which is also explained.
