ABSTRACT

Safety and health professionals are in the business of creating and maintaining a safe and healthful work environment for all employees and minimizing the potential risks for their organization. As previously discussed, each and every team member at all levels of the organization’s hierarchy must be actively involved in the safety and health programs and efforts led and directed by the safety and health professional. However, whether it is the team member’s job placement, training or lack thereof, the team member’s supervisor or coworkers, or simply human nature and the law of probabilities, there will always be some individuals within the organization who will require additional positive as well as negative motivation in order for them to acknowledge, accept, and perform the requisite safety and health duties and responsibilities. The underlying question for safety and health professionals is why.
