ABSTRACT
A mildly dilated common bile duct is expected in patients with prior cholecystectomy. It is not abnormal for the common bile duct to increase in size slightly with age. Should there be dilatation of the intra-hepatic ducts, this almost always suggests pathology and biliary obstruction.
