ABSTRACT
Reliability originated during World War II, when the Germans rst introduced the concept to improve the operation of their V-1 and V-2 rockets. Prior to this time, most equipment was mechanical in nature and failures could usually be isolated to a simple part. Products were expected to be reliable and safety margins in stressstrength, wear, or fatigue conditions were employed to assure it. Then, as electronics began to grow, so did reliability.
