ABSTRACT
The ofcial nomenclature has been codied and dened in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR, with DSM-V anticipated) [1]. Bipolar I disorder describes a sufferer who experienced distinct periods of severe depression alternating with at least one episode of severe activation or mania, while bipolar II disorder had no distinct mania (see Table 32.1).
