ABSTRACT

Two animals of special significance in urban and suburban America are resident giant Canada goose (Branta sp.) and white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). These two animals (Figure 14.1 and Figure 14.2) share a common legacy in terms of: (1) those factors that contributed to their prominence in urban America, (2) distribution in the continental United States, (3) the human response

to their presence, (4) ecological impacts on their habitats, (5) human health and safety issues, and (6) feasible and acceptable management strategies.
