ABSTRACT

The goal of any business is to produce quality products and services efficiently. The goal of social enterprising is to enhance the quality and productivity aspects of the work experience. To achieve an acceptable level of productivity, as much emphasis must be placed on “people” issues as on business process issues. The human aspect provides by far the largest source of opportunity for improving productivity. In many organizations, the corporate intranet performs much of the “people prep” functionality. Organizational structures tend to promote “silo” thinking where particular locations, divisions, or functions focus on maximizing their own accomplishments and rewards, keeping information to themselves and thereby suboptimizing the whole organization. Storytelling involves the construction of fictional examples or the telling of real organizational stories to illustrate a point and effectively transfer knowledge.
