ABSTRACT
The compressibility of the fluid becomes essential when the flow velocity is of the same order or greater than the speed of sound (see question 1.3.2) or when the fluid (or gas) is subject to changing external pressure on the containing volume like in an air pump or in a balloon rising through a stratified atmosphere.
