ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the broad scope of phenomena that make up the subject of combustion. Combustion impacts many aspects of our lives, especially sustainability, global climate change, and the utilization of energy. For engineers, the continuing challenge is to design safe, ef–cient, and non-polluting combustion systems for many different types of fuels in such a way as to protect the environment and enable sustainable lifestyles.
