ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of energy saving strategies in fixed access networks. Different energy saving strategies are analyzed, including technology aspects, architectural aspects and the energy saving potential of dynamic power management. A comparison of energy consumption for state-of-theart fixed access architectures (based on Ethernet PtP, GPON, XG-PON, ADSL2+, VDSL2, etc) is provided. As a basis for the comparison, models for power consumption of the different technologies are presented.
