ABSTRACT

Polymer coatings are found in every aspect of our daily life, common examples being wood coatings, architectural wall coatings, automotive paints, etc. Coatings serve two main purposes: (1) provide aesthetic look or decorative appearance and (2) act as a protective layer. Therefore, coating on one hand ensures the aesthetic appearance of the material surface (color, gloss) and on the other hand it acts as a protective layer against scratches, abrasion, corrosion, and chemical attack from solvents, chemicals, beverages, etc. Two class of curing processes used to achieve the solid coating are as follows:

1. Physical processes, such as absorption, solvent evaporation, and coalescence of particles. These are generally slow unless accelerated by external heating.
