ABSTRACT

The use of radiation techniques plays an important role in the investigation and production of CNSs (Gerasimov 2010). In particular, the inuence of high-energy particles on CNSs leads to their modication, which includes the welding of crossing CNTs, the polymerization of fullerene layers, the formation of new nanoscale structures (quantum dots, nanowires, metal-doped fullerenes, etc.), the radiation chemistry of CNSs, and others. As an initiation step, irradiation gives rise to the formation of vacancies and other defects in the CNS lattice. The subsequent transformation of nano-objects depends both on their internal structure and reciprocal arrangement leading to their amorphization at high irradiation doses.
