ABSTRACT
Compensators, in software or hardware, are commonly built having rational transfer functions.
An asymptotic Bode diagram is piece linear. The slope of the segments of the diagram is 6n dB/octave, where n is an integer. The asymptotic Bode diagram is used to approximate the conceptual Bode diagram for the compensator (which may include segments of any slope). From the asymptotic Bode diagram the poles and zeros of the compensator transfer function are immediately evident.
