ABSTRACT
Here is the story very briefly: Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester, married Amy Robsart, much against the desire of Queen Elizabeth I, his sovereign (who, some have said, had the hots for him). Dudley was fond of Thomas Allen, and Allen, who had the reputation of being a magician, worked black magic to assist whatever hanky-panky Dudley was up to and also to foster a match between Dudley and Elizabeth. So it was rumored, anyway.
