ABSTRACT

I n the fall of 1971, David Edwin Pingree (1933-2005), who had come from the University of Chicago, entered this mise en scène-or, more accurately put since its members referred to one another by animal names, this zoo. David was a classicist, linguist, Orientalist, historian, avid book collector and bibliophile, and member of the History of Mathematics Department at Brown from 1971 to the time of his passing.
