ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the business analyst’s involvement with the project after the requirements has gather and agreed upon. The business analyst should be involved with the requirements negotiations that inevitably take place on any complex project. The customer is often accused of not being able to think outside the box and of being too rooted in today’s environment to be able to accept creative and innovative solutions. The risk analysis should be done from two perspectives: organizational risk, which is the domain of the sponsor and the executives, and project risk, which is the domain of the project manager. There is a general shift in the industry today away from product verification as the main goal and toward product validation, which is much more difficult, but also more critical and much more rewarding. Organizations that successfully verify and validate their products will have a strong competitive advantage and are likely to win more business from their customers.
