ABSTRACT

Figure 4.1a illustrates the relationship for a linear viscous liquid (Equation 3.10). Liquids obeying such behavior are called Newtonian liquids. Only one material parameter, the viscosity η, suffices to fully define their rheological

behavior under shear. The viscosity is given by the slope of the shear stress versus shear rate line, and is independent of shear rate (Figure 4.2, line 1) and shearing time.
