ABSTRACT

Classical sensors are adequately used for traditional methodological operations such as obtaining an electrical signal corresponding to aphysical parameter. In comparatively complex situations, signals generated by a transducer are mathematically operated like squared or squared rooted by using amicroprocessor or amicrocontroller. Traditional transducers, in such situations, are termed in a way like “microcontroller based” or “microprocessor interfaced,” etc. Over the years, the industrial requirement of sensors have changed tremendously in terms of cost, size, quantity, and intelligence; industrial control and instrumentation has shifted away from large distributedsensor system to integrated, small, low-cost system that could be able to perform in «exible environment conditions in real time with added signal processing capabilities. Thus, the added set of capabilities of sensor system led to a new class of sensors-intelligent sensors.
