ABSTRACT
In this chapter we study submanifolds of Riemannian symmetric spaces: totally geodesic submanifolds (Section 11.1), totally umbilical submanifolds and extrinsic spheres (Section 11.2), symmetric submanifolds (Section 11.3), submanifolds with parallel second fundamental form (Section 11.4). We mainly discuss the classification problems for these submanifolds.
