ABSTRACT

Circumcision (from the Latin circumciseo, to cut around) is defined as removal of part or all of the prepuce (foreskin). In the United States, about 80% of the male population-120 million boys and men-have been circumcised (1-4). Circumcision in the United States is usually done during the immediate neonatal period and consists of removing the foreskin from the preputial opening at the tip of the penis to the coronal sulcus at the base of the glans (Figs. 1 and 2) (5).
