ABSTRACT

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined as the consistent inability to obtain or maintain a penile erection satisfactory for sexual intercourse (1). Community epidemiologic studies have revealed that 52% of men aged 40 to 70 years have one of the following forms of impotence: self-reported (17%), moderate (25%), and clinically complete (10%) (2). Although there are a large variety of surgical and nonsurgical options available for the treatment of these patients, penile revascularization is the only modality that has the capability of restoring fully natural penile erections without necessity of external mechanical devices, chronic use of vasoactive medication, or surgical placement of internal penile prosthetic devices.
