ABSTRACT

In recent years, new developments in cell culture techniques, an increasing knowledge about genes and their effects in the mammalian organism, and the discovery of growth factors as important stimulators of tissue proliferation and differentiation have led to new experimental approaches in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). This chapter introduces the recent advances in the treatment of ED via tissue engineering, growth factor treatment, and gene therapy, highlights the results of pioneering experiments, and offers a glimpse into the future of these techniques.
