ABSTRACT

Many significant advances in the understanding of the physiology of male sexual function have been attained in the last three decades. The individual nature and function of the elements involved in the normal sexual response have been delineated. Additional progress has been made in the comprehension of the intricate neural mechanisms that govern sexual activity. This greater knowledge has enabled similarly innovative advances in the investigation and treatment of male sexual dysfunction. It is hoped that the information provided in this chapter will serve to familiarize clinicians and other health professionals with this topic and to provide them with a means of better understanding the physiological basis of their patients’ sexual concerns.
