Appendix B: Guide to Evaluating Fever and Infection in Long-Term Care Facilities

A. Nursing aide should measure temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate.

1. Fever is defined as

a. one or more rectal temperatures of more than 100F (3.8C), or

b. two or more oral temperatures of more than 99F (37.2C), or

c. a temperature increase of 2F (1.1C) over baseline regardless of technique or measurement.
