ABSTRACT
Over about 20 years, the classification of prostatitis from Drach et al. (1) was the basis in diagnostic and therapy of prostatitis. But this classification had several limitations and did not fit all facets of the complex prostatitis syndrome. So in 1999, the International Prostatitis Collaborative Network (2) developed in cooperation with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) a new classification which has been accepted worldwide (Table 1).
