ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Accurate surgical current procedural terminology (CPT) coding is essential for proper reimbursement and coupled with adequate documentation will fend off audits and refund claims. Readers should consult the current CPT book and ICD-9-CM (International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Edition) for reference. All providers/readers must have the current copy of each of these manuals for reference and become familiar with them to, report services provided. CPT and ICD-9-CM comprise the language which providers must use to communicate with insurers.
